What is Sourdough?
Our sourdough is home made of a mixture of organic flours and water.
When you mix flour and water together and allow it to ferment at a suitable temperature, yeasts and good bacteria start to feed on the flour and create gas, which has the ability to leaven (raise) bread.
Our bread has a moist crumb, which is achieved by using high water content (70-90%) and a sourdough starter.
Do you use organic flour?
Yes, at Bella Sourdough all of our flours are certified organic flours from wheat grown and milled locally across Victoria.
Do you slice the bread?
Unfortunately we don't offer slicing your bread at the minute.
However, given the high content of water and sourdough we recommend against slicing your loaves to keep your bread fresher for longer.
How do I store sourdough?
As soon as your bread is cut, pop it face down on a clean chopping board. This will allow your bread to stay as fresh as possible. The cut side will then be protected from drying out and the crust will protect the rest.
If your bread is starting to dry out, pop it in a bag or a food container and it will then start to soften up.
If your bread feels dry/stale simply run it under the tap and chuck it in the over/toaster. This will revive your bread as if it was freshly baked.
Can I freeze sourdough?
Yes, you can freeze your sourdough bread sliced or the whole thing. Pop it in a freezer bag or food container and it will last for up to six months.
We recommend slicing your bread first.
When are you open?
Bella Sourdough doesn't currently have a store front (we are working on having one though). We take online orders that you can get delivered on Fridays for a fee or you can collect for free on Saturday either in Carrum Downs or at Market 3196.

I can't find what I want on the website?
Not everything is available every week. Our weekly special rotate through the month so you will rarely find the same menu every week.
